Ren Faire Rules and Frequently asked Questions
First of all, thanks for your interest in assisting
Colorado Renaissance
Festival.
It's a wonderful event and a great chance to show lots of people
how great Greyhounds are.
This is a very large event that runs for 8 weekends. Many
thousands of people see greyhounds for the first time at the
festival.
A typical day at the faire
A typical day out at the festival starts around 9 or 9:30am, when
a few intrepid volunteers arrive and start setting up our
booth.
Benches are taken out of the back and any other decorations are
put in place.
At 10am, the opening cannon goes off near the main gate. If you
have a hound thats startled by loud noises, you should make sure
and have a good grip on their leash.
After 10am, folks start trickling by the booth. Mornings tend to
be reasonably slow and quiet with less people than
afternoons. Since there are fewer people it's a good time to
have longer conversations with interested adopters.
At 12:40 or so, a group of folks and their hounds head down past
the employee gate and form up for the daily parade. At 1pm
the parade leaves and makes a large circuit of the faire
grounds, ending back at the employee area. After the parade is
over, hounds and humans that walked in the parade head back to
the booth. The parade is a lot of fun, but make sure your hound
(and you!) are up for the hike around faire in the heat!
In the afternoon many more folks come by the booth. After the
parade and into the afternoon is the busiest time at the booth.
The faire runs until 6:30pm, when it's time to put away
decorations and benches, count donations and head home until the
next day.
Rules to Follow
The Faire management has asked us to follow a few rules. Please
make sure you (and those with you) follow them:
- You MUST be in costume when working at the booth.
- You MUST be in costume when walking your dog(s) to/from
the employee gate while the faire is open.
- Dogs must be at the booth, or going to/from the employee
gate. They may NOT wander around the faire with you.
- Only well behaved Greyhounds are allowed. No other dog breeds.
- You should always enter/exit at the employee gate. If you
have kids or others with tickets with you, they can take the
tickets at the employee gate and they can enter there with you.
- Make sure and have cell phones in silent mode or off at the
booth.
- You must keep all non period items concealed. (water
bottles, fans, cell phones, non period hats, etc).
- We can only have a maximum of 6 people working in the booth
at a time. If you notice more than 6 people working, let
everyone know so some people can go take a break.
- You are welcome to buy tickets for your Children and bring
them to enjoy the faire, but they cannot work at the booth.
- Please plan on working at the booth 4 hours or so. You are welcome
to take breaks and see the festival before and after your shift
if there are sufficent people in the booth.
- While representing CGA, volunteers should NOT be
inebriated.
All the usual rules apply for representing CGA at an event:
You will be expected to read, understand and sign a copy of the
CGA Meet and Greet rules:
- 1. CGA Meet and Greets are generally for Greyhounds.
If you
bring another breed dog with you, that dog must be at least
one year of age, trained and well socialized. Owners with
disruptive dogs will be asked to leave.
- 2. Dogs must be in good health (treated injuries excepted) and
be current on vaccinations.
- 3. Dogs must be well socialized. Dogs that are shy are
welcome and encouraged to participate provided there is no
risk of “fear biting.” Dogs that may act aggressively
towards other dogs or are extremely prey oriented may not
participate at meet & greet events.
- 4. Owners must be in control of their dogs at all times and
are responsible for insuring that their dogs do not menace
small mammals and birds which may be present at the meet &
greet locations.
- 5. Owners are responsible for cleaning up any “accidents”
made by their dogs.
- 6. Please respect the business that is donating their space to
us, and understand that their business is to sell pet-related
supplies. At no time should we interfere with their ability
to run their business. Please refrain from:
A: Blocking access to cashiers or products.
B: Offering merchandise of any kind for sale at a Meet and
Greet event, whether that merchandise is CGA merchandise, or
individual enterprise. Either type of offering is
unacceptable as it threatens our relationship with the store,
and our reputation.
- 7. Volunteers are asked to use good judgment regarding
personal conversations when interested parties approach the
Meet and Greet. While Meet and Greet events are a wonderful
forum for greyhound owners to network with other greyhound
owners, we need to be sensitive to the interested party.
Please give a prospective adopter your full attention when he
or she is inquiring about greyhound adoption.
- 8. Meet and Greet Events are also a wonderful tool to attract
new volunteers. Please make an extra effort to welcome and
include new volunteers and their greyhounds.
- 9. Colorado Greyhound Adoption maintains a neutral stance on
the issue of dog racing. Please do not comment on the racing
industry. If you are not sure how to answer a question about
greyhound racing, please refer the inquiring party to our main
number.
- 10. Greyhounds are not the right dog for everyone, if you
determine in your conversation that the family would be better
suited to another breed, please refer them to their local
animal shelter.
