In this murder game, players must provide their own corpses: Anyone might be a killer; anyone might be a victim.

In order to kill another player you must have a License to Kill (as described on your dossier). There are five types of licenses:

  1. General: You may kill at most one other character (your choice).
  2. Restricted: You may kill an unlimited number of people, but certain restrictions apply to its exercise.
  3. Special: You may kill only a specified target.
  4. Authority: You may not kill anyone, but you may order someone who has been caught committing a crime out of the game.
  5. None: You may not kill anyone under any circumstances.

IMPORTANT: Murder is a last resort. No one wants a bloodbath, so take it easy.

Restrictions on Killings
Certain characters are, for game purposes, "inv
ulnerable." Game refs, for instance, are always immune to death or arrest. Furthermore, in The Musical Murders of 1929 Peter Mycroft Vestibule Spiner may not be killed, mutilated, folded, spindled, or otherwise harmed in any way by anyone.

Witnessing
In most cases, the only people that can be present at a murder are the murderer and the victim. If anyone else is present, then no murder can take place.
Exception: Characters with the "Witnesses Allowed" special ability can commit murders in public under special circumstances noted on their character sheets.

If someone walks in on a murder, or on circumstances that plainly indicate a murder has just happened, then that person is a witness. They may, but are not required to, report the crime to the other players, who will then imprison the murderer. The witness is under no compulsion to report the crime, however.

No false accusations can be made under any circumstances. Game refs reserve the right to investigate the circumstances of an accused murder, and if the accusation proves false will accordingly punish the player making the false accusation.

If you are killed or arrested you are not removed from the game. Instead, you will come back as a secondary character. Also, if you have accomplished all of your goals anyway (or if your goals become impossible to solve), consult a game referee. If it seems appropriate, you might be allowed to switch to a secondary character.

Ceremonies and Rituals
Your dossier may call for you to perform a ceremony or ritual either by yourself or with other characters. In either case, you must have a game referee as witness during each stage of the ceremony. If a game referee does not witness a stage, the desired effect will be null and void.

Pilfering
Stealing game props is perfectly acceptable—in fact, it might be one of your goals. However, it is strictly forbidden for you to steal or look at other Characters Dossiers, or any Green or Red Effects unless they are given to you.
