Jamie Valiant

Background
You were born in the wilds of Canada (if that’s not an redundancy), and leaving the sticks for the big city was the smartest thing you ever did. With your keen writing, natural zest, and ability to bulldoze any obstacle, you quickly became the top reporter at the Boston Avalanche-Journal, landing hot story after hot story in the process. You haven’t won the Pulitzer yet, but it’s not for lack of trying.

Recent Developments
You’re returning from a tour of Europe, where you interviewed lots of bigwigs: Daladier of France, Baldwin of England, and the Pope. The interviews were reasonably successful: only the Pope tried to throttle you. Maybe you shouldn't have imbibed that sacrificial wine. You are purposely voyaging back on the RMS Whapcaplette because of its sinister reputation: some 84 people have disappeared from this ship over the last 7 years, giving it the nickname "The Floating Charnel House of Death". There's a real hot story somewhere here, and you're just the gal to break it.

And when you found out that Donovan Douglas was on the ship with you, you nearly jumped out of your skin! At last you could corner the biggest gangster on the East Coast and get that exclusive interview! Meanwhile, your editor, Grant Weakwood, who is also aboard, has been pushing you to get an interview with the ever-elusive detective Anastasio Romanov. That would be a first in every sense of the word, since he has apparently never submitted to an interview with anyone. But no matter what you've tried so far (bribing the crew, donning a disguise, standing outside his door and yelling "Kraut sub firing monkey-guided torpedoes off the port bow!") Romanov has never appeared, only his smirking Russian flunky, Orlovsky-Smythe.
