Graduate Research Assistant, Psychology/Institute for Behavioral
Genetics, Boulder, CO, 8/94 to present
Continuation of the work began as a professional research
assistant (see below). Performed receptor binding filtration assays
using radiolabelled ligands to study possible neurochemical and
genetic aspects of purinergic modulation in mice. These determinants
are being studied for possible effects on alcohol sensitivity as well
as how jthey change with circadian rhythm. Other skills include brain
dissection, interperitoneal injections, and spectrophotometric
techniques.
Professional Research Assistant, Institute for Behavioral
Genetics, Boulder, CO, 11/92 to 10/94
Performed research and development on blood enzyme assays for
microplate readers to ascertain enzymatic activity changes during
pregnancy. Erythrocytes were age-separated using percoll gradients.
Utilized receptor binding assays with radioisotopes to study possible
neurochemical determinants of purinergic modulation in mice.
Responsibilities included running and design of experiments, data
management, collection and analysis, formulation of new assays, sample
preparation, and supervision of other technicians. Data analysis was
performed using a variety of statistics software.
Student Assistant, National Center for Atmospheric Research,
Boulder, Co, 6/92 to 11/92
Provided computational support in the development of programs to
analyze weather patterns based on several determining factors.
Programming was done in FORTRAN.
Physicist/Research Fellow, Sandia National Laboratory, Livermore,
CA; Summer 1989 and 6/90 to 11/90
Researched and analyzed spectral profiles of coal particles using
laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy. I also handled various lasers
within the laboratory. Conceptualized and implemented new
experiments for the analysis of ash deposition on metal
substrates.
Research Assistant, Atmospheric Sciences Laboratory/White Sands
Missile Range, 10/89 to 5/90
Researched photoacoustical techniques for the detection of atmospheric
components and helped develop an analysis/graphics program.
Teaching Assistant, NMSU Physics Department, 8/89 to 5/90 and 1/91 to 7/92
Assisted professors in grading assignments. Instructed beginning
physics students in laboratory and recitation classes. I also wrote
several operating procedure manuals.
Teaching Assistant, Marquette University Physics Department,
Milwaukee, WI, 1987 to 1988
Instructed and tutored introductory physics students in recitation and
lab courses.
